About the coffee
This coffee is sourced from the small-holders based around Sipi Falls on the steep slopes of Mt. Elgon, bordering the great Elgon Forest which extends up to Kenya.
The region is home to a vast array of rivers and falls and coffee is grown at high altitude amongst lush vegetation.
We have been purchasing washed coffee from Sipi Falls for more than a decade and in 2009, we worked with Kawacom to help them gain Rainforest Alliance Certification for the wet mill. This has enabled the thousands of smallholder farmers who sell cherry to Sipi Falls to produce their coffee in a more environmentally sustainable way and achieve higher prices.
The team at Sipi Falls have been experimenting with extended and anaerobic fermentations – the results of which – we’re very excited to share with you in this creamy, juicy and sweet coffee.
Innovative Processes
These coffees have gone through innovative or experimental post-harvest processing methods that create exciting new flavors profiles above and beyond what you’d typically expect of the terroir.
