    About the coffee

We have been working with Rwanda Trading Company (RTC) for almost 10 years now, buying Rain Forest Alliance certified washed coffee.

This coffee is sourced from 3 washing stations in the south and south-east of the country at around 1800masl. They are called Shyara Mountain, Kabonobono and Gisaka washing stations.
They are setup in the typical way seen in Rwanda. Local small holder farmers deliver their daily harvest of cherries to be processed with the washed process and dried carefully for up to 21 days on raised drying beds.

The stringent protocols that the washing stations apply to the coffee processing really help to celebrate the great acidity in the red bourbon variety, resulting in vibrant red currant and lime flavours.

The roast profile for our Pioneering Producers range is designed to enhance sweetness and bring balance for all brewing methods. In this coffee it has resulted in a creamy body with a lingering caramel sweetness and good vibes.

    Pioneering Producers

Coffees in this range are from producers who do things differently and are at the top of their game. We love returning to these same relationships year on year and making Value Chain Investments to secure the future.
